Indiana Christian School Teacher Gets Probation for Student Sex Case

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — A former Christian school kindergarten teacher was sentenced to nearly four years of probation Thursday after admitting to a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student that included encounters on school grounds and at the teenager’s home.

Torrie Lemon, 24, pleaded guilty to child seduction as a Level 5 felony in Hamilton County Superior Court and received a four-year sentence with all but 40 days suspended. She had already served one month in jail awaiting trial, which counts toward her jail time. Lemon faces additional sentencing Friday in Marion County on two more child seduction charges related to the same case involving her relationship with the Colonial Christian School student.

The inappropriate relationship came to light in April 2025 during a school trip to South Carolina when another student discovered explicit text messages on the victim’s phone. Court documents show the messages included discussions about “climaxing” and “laying in bed” together. One text from Lemon to the student read: “I love you more than I can describe. I love my girl. Thank you for an amazing night and morning.” School officials immediately removed Lemon from the trip and contacted authorities. “I was having an inappropriate relationship with a student from our school,” Lemon told investigators when questioned about the allegations, according to FOX 59.

The victim told police the relationship began in January 2025 when she and Lemon initially bonded over their shared attraction to women. Court documents reveal both the teacher and student said they “wanted it to just be a friendship” because it “went against their beliefs as Christians.” However, the relationship eventually became sexual, with encounters occurring at Lemon’s apartment located on Colonial Christian School property. Lemon was also permitted to stay overnight at the student’s family home, where they shared a pull-out couch in the basement. Following these sleepovers, the girl began asking her parents questions about Indiana’s age of consent laws, which is set at 16 years old.

The victim’s father acknowledged to investigators that he was aware his daughter had “kissed, hugged and cuddled” with Lemon but chose not to report the relationship because he feared jeopardizing the teacher’s career, according to court documents. The girl’s mother also suspected “there was more to their relationship” than friendship, Lemon allegedly told police. Investigators obtained extensive evidence including phone data from the victim and social media data from Lemon’s Facebook and Snapchat accounts. When police initially attempted to interview Lemon, she had moved back to New Hampshire and declined to speak without an attorney present. However, she later cooperated with the investigation and admitted to the inappropriate relationship.

Colonial Christian School, located on the north side of Indianapolis, employed Lemon as a kindergarten teacher until the allegations surfaced. The school fired her in June 2025 after the relationship came to light. A probable cause affidavit for Lemon’s arrest was filed on June 12, 2025, and she was officially charged on June 30, 2025, in Hamilton Superior Court. The private Christian school has not responded to requests for comment about the case or any policy changes implemented following the incident. Indiana law considers child seduction a Level 5 felony when it involves a person in a position of trust or authority over a minor, even when the victim is above the age of consent.

Hamilton County prosecutors worked with Marion County officials on the multi-jurisdictional case, as some of the alleged criminal conduct occurred across county lines. Court records show Lemon’s Hamilton County sentence includes standard conditions of probation such as no unsupervised contact with minors and registration requirements. The case highlights ongoing concerns about inappropriate relationships between educators and students at religious institutions. Legal experts note that Indiana’s child seduction statute specifically addresses situations where authority figures exploit their positions of trust, regardless of the victim’s age of consent for general sexual activity.

Lemon’s defense attorney Bryan Cantrell negotiated the plea agreement that allowed her to avoid significant prison time while ensuring she faces consequences for her actions. The victim has not made any public statements about the case, and her identity remains protected under standard protocols for cases involving minors. Lemon is required to register as a sex offender and continue treatment upon her release, according to court records. Her separate sentencing in Marion County on two additional child seduction charges is scheduled for Friday, where she could face additional penalties.

The case remains under review as Lemon completes her brief jail sentence and begins her probation period. Her next court appearance in Marion County will determine whether she faces additional jail time or if her sentences will run concurrently with the Hamilton County conviction.
