Nurse Shot Dead by Estranged Husband at New Jersey Workplace

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — A licensed practical nurse was shot and killed by her estranged husband at her workplace Monday morning, after he ambushed her in the parking lot and chased her inside the rehabilitation facility where she worked.

Victoria Alexander, 38, died at ExcelCare Rehabilitation Facility around 6 a.m. when Brandon Alexander, 35, followed her into the building and shot her multiple times before turning the gun on himself, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. Brandon Alexander was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in critical condition and died Tuesday morning from his self-inflicted gunshot wound. The couple, who lived in Minotola, Buena Borough, had two sons together.

Brandon Alexander had waited in the parking lot for his wife to arrive for her early morning shift at the 120-bed skilled nursing center on Delilah Road, investigators said. When Victoria Alexander arrived, he blocked her vehicle with his car, got inside her vehicle and placed two suicide notes on her dashboard, according to prosecutors. A food delivery driver intervened and asked Brandon Alexander to move his car, giving Victoria Alexander a brief opportunity to escape and run into the building. “This case represents a tragic and deliberate act of domestic violence that escalated to deadly consequences,” Atlantic County Prosecutor William Reynolds told local media. “Domestic violence is not a private matter, it is a serious crime that destroys families and threatens public safety.”

Before heading to ExcelCare that morning, Brandon Alexander posted eight TikTok videos with captions including “I’m at war with my soul and my conscience,” “Broken beyond repair,” “It’s over,” and “My last ride,” according to BreakingAC. The posts quoted lyrics from rap songs and showed him looking directly at the camera. The final video showed the view from a driver’s seat of a moving car. Victoria Alexander also maintained a TikTok account where she celebrated her sons and her journey to becoming a nurse. In September, she had posted about her husband, calling him “My forever and ever.” Investigators did not immediately release the contents of the two suicide notes found in Victoria Alexander’s vehicle. No residents or other staff members at the facility were injured during the shooting.

The killing marked Atlantic County’s first homicide of 2026, ending a historic stretch in which the county recorded zero murders in the first quarter of the year. Victoria Alexander’s death came just weeks after another New Jersey nurse, Tomeka Kamwani, 41, was killed in a suspected domestic violence incident in Swedesboro on March 28. Kamwani had obtained a restraining order against her attacker but was still killed, according to nurse.org. The tragedy highlights concerns about domestic violence following healthcare workers into their workplaces, as nurses face some of the highest rates of workplace violence across all industries. ExcelCare administrator Lior Benesti said the shooting “has shaken everyone” at the facility and that staff followed established safety procedures to protect residents during the incident.

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department and Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office are leading the investigation into the murder-suicide. Authorities described the shooting as an isolated incident involving individuals known to one another. ExcelCare issued a statement saying the facility has a strict no-weapons policy and carefully structured response protocols that went into effect during the incident. “We are deeply saddened by the heartbreaking death of one of our beloved employees,” an ExcelCare spokesperson said. “This was an isolated incident and our residents were not endangered.” Several family members of residents expressed frustration that they were not immediately notified of the incident or the status of their loved ones during the emergency response.

Residents at the facility were awakened by gunfire and screams around 6 a.m., according to family members who spoke with local media. One daughter of a patient said her mother called her during the incident, reporting that someone had shut all the residents’ doors and fire alarms were going off in the background. Police officers with long rifles conducted room-by-room sweeps of the facility following the shooting to ensure no other threats were present. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said all residents were considered safe following the shooting. Reynolds emphasized that untreated mental health crises can contribute to escalating violence and urged those in danger to seek help immediately.

The investigation remains ongoing with no additional charges expected to be filed. Victoria Alexander leaves behind two young sons and a community of colleagues and patients who described her as beloved. The shooting represents the latest workplace violence incident at a healthcare facility, where predictable work schedules and locations can make employees vulnerable to targeting by abusive partners.
