Miami Man Charged With False Imprisonment After Dating App Meeting Turns Violent

MIAMI, FL – A 34-year-old Miami man faces multiple charges after police say he physically restrained and assaulted a woman who traveled from Orlando to meet him through a social media dating app, authorities announced.

Saady Mijail Castellanos Triminio was arrested Friday evening after Miami police responded to reports of a woman calling for help from his Northeast Bayshore Court apartment. The victim had brought her 3-year-old daughter with her for what she believed would be a dinner date to celebrate Castellanos Triminio’s birthday.

According to the police report, the two had met online approximately two weeks earlier. Castellanos Triminio offered to purchase a Brightline train ticket for the woman, who was seeking companionship, so she could visit Miami. The mother and daughter arrived by train at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Instead of going to dinner as the woman expected, Castellanos Triminio purchased pizza and brought them to his apartment. Police say the woman became uncomfortable with the apartment’s condition and felt uneasy when Castellanos Triminio attempted to kiss her.

When the woman tried to leave, Castellanos Triminio became angry and blocked her exit, according to the police report. He then bear-hugged her to prevent her from leaving the apartment. The woman began texting a friend for help, but police say Castellanos Triminio took her phone away and covered her mouth to stop her from screaming.

The victim eventually escaped to another room with her daughter and locked the door, then contacted her friend, who called police. Officers responding to the scene heard the woman calling for help and arrested Castellanos Triminio when he opened the door.

Police noted that the woman’s 3-year-old daughter witnessed the entire incident and sustained bruises on both arms during the altercation. The child’s injuries led to additional charges against Castellanos Triminio.

Castellanos Triminio faces charges of strong-arm robbery, child neglect, false imprisonment, and battery by strangulation. A judge set his bond at $17,500 and placed him on an immigration hold. The court also issued a stay-away order to protect the victim.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about safety risks associated with meeting strangers through dating applications and social media platforms.
