SPOKANE, WA – A Washington woman was sentenced to nearly three years in prison for setting fire to her ex-wife’s home, killing the woman’s dog in an act of revenge following their bitter divorce.
Meadow Raine-Jones, 38, of Spokane, received a 34-month sentence on Tuesday after pleading guilty to arson involving domestic violence. She also pleaded guilty to stalking, stalking involving domestic violence, and animal cruelty involving domestic violence charges.
The arson occurred in November 2024, months after Raine-Jones and Martha Jones, 42, finalized their divorce in April 2024. Martha had filed for dissolution of their marriage in December 2023, just months after the couple married in March of that year.
According to prosecutors, Raine-Jones had been harassing and stalking Martha and her new partner by repeatedly driving by Martha’s home and contacting her incessantly via text and social media. The harassment escalated when Raine-Jones broke into Martha’s home and set fire to her bedroom, where Martha’s dog was kept in a crate.
A neighbor witnessed the flames and called 911. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures on the dog, but the animal died from smoke inhalation despite their efforts.
Judge Rachelle Anderson imposed sentences at the higher end of the guidelines: 34 months for arson, 29 months for stalking involving domestic violence, 20 months for regular stalking, and 354 days for animal cruelty. The sentences will run concurrently, and Raine-Jones will receive credit for 455 days already served.
During the sentencing hearing, Martha spoke about how she lost her sense of safety due to Raine-Jones’ actions. The judge also ordered Raine-Jones to have no contact with the victims for the rest of their lives.
Court records show that Martha had filed for a restraining order against Raine-Jones on the same day she filed for divorce in December 2023. Records also indicate that Raine-Jones has been the subject of another protective order brought by Toby Ann Roberson for alleged domestic violence.
