FRISCO, TX – A 48-year-old elementary school teacher has been arrested and charged with invasive visual recording following a police investigation into misconduct allegations at his school.
Michael Cheek, who taught third grade at Billy Gene Phillips Elementary School in the Frisco Independent School District, was taken into custody on the state jail felony charge. If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison and fines reaching $10,000.
Frisco police launched their investigation after becoming aware of the misconduct allegations against Cheek. Law enforcement officials worked closely with district administrators throughout the investigative process.
The school district immediately placed Cheek on administrative leave and banned him from all Frisco ISD properties. He has not been on campus or had contact with students since the allegations surfaced, according to district officials.
“The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority, and as soon as the District became aware of the allegations, we began working in full cooperation with the Frisco Police Department,” a Frisco ISD spokesperson said in a statement.
District officials emphasized their commitment to supporting the ongoing investigation while taking appropriate protective measures. The school has removed Cheek from its staff directory listings.
Frisco ISD stated it cannot provide additional details about the case due to the active investigation but confirmed that proper protocols were followed once the allegations came to light.
The district pledged to continue its full cooperation with law enforcement as the investigation progresses. Police have not released information about the specific circumstances surrounding the charges.
