California Teen Arrested for Park Shooting That Left 20-Year-Old Dead on Basketball Court

LA HABRA, CA – A monthslong investigation into a fatal shooting at a Southern California park has led to the arrest of a teenager on murder charges, the La Habra Police Department announced Friday.

Isaac Gomez, 19, of La Habra, was arrested and charged with murder with a gang enhancement in connection with the November 19 shooting at El Centro Park. He was booked into the Orange County Jail with bail set at $1 million.

The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. at the park, located at 321 East Erna Avenue. Officers who responded found a 20-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds on a basketball court. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Video from the scene showed a white sheet covering a body on the basketball court as bullet casings lay nearby.

Authorities investigated the fatal shooting for nearly three months before announcing Gomez’s arrest. The victim’s identity has not been publicly released.

No further details about the circumstances leading to the shooting were disclosed. Police asked anyone with information to contact Detective Angel at 562-383-4334 or the department’s on-duty Watch Commander at 562-383-4347.
