WEST BEND, WI – A Wisconsin man is facing attempted murder charges after authorities say he stabbed his girlfriend multiple times, showered, and then called 911 to report what he had done.
Kevin A. Fischer was arrested early Sunday morning at his West Bend home in Washington County after placing the call to dispatchers at approximately 3:30 a.m. On the recorded 911 call, Fischer admitted to the attack in stark terms.
“I tried killing her, she’s bleeding really bad because I stabbed her,” Fischer told dispatchers. He added, “I don’t want her to die,” and said, “I love her and hate her at the same time.”
Officers who arrived at the residence found Fischer sobbing and smelling strongly of alcohol. The victim was discovered with stab wounds to her hip, thigh, knee, and abdomen. A bloody knife was found on the bed, and a second knife was recovered from underneath it.
The victim was rushed to a hospital, where surgeons determined the abdominal wound had ruptured her small intestine. A portion of the organ had to be surgically removed.
According to the criminal complaint, Fischer had been drinking since noon the previous day. His sister had been visiting and left around midnight. When the victim told Fischer she wanted to go to sleep, he allegedly became violent without provocation. The victim told investigators the attack appeared completely unprovoked.
Fischer has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide with use of a dangerous weapon and domestic abuse modifiers. A judge set his bond at $500,000.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for April 2. Fischer remains in custody at the Washington County Jail.
