DOYLESTOWN, PA – A 55-year-old man is in custody after police found his elderly parents and sister dead inside their Bucks County home following an hours-long standoff that began when he threatened a visitor with a knife, authorities said.
Kevin Castiglia was arrested Monday night after a South Central Emergency Response Team forced entry into the family’s Doylestown residence, where officers discovered the bodies of Judith Castiglia, 84, Fred Castiglia, 90, and Deborah Castiglia, 53.
The grim discovery came after Deborah’s boyfriend grew concerned when he hadn’t heard from her since Saturday. He visited the family home Sunday and spotted her vehicle in the driveway, but no one answered the door.
When he returned Monday, Kevin Castiglia met him at the door, brandished a knife, and threatened: “Don’t ever come here again or I will kill you.”
The boyfriend called police, who arrived to find Castiglia armed with two knives and speaking incoherently. Officers deployed tasers, but they proved ineffective. Castiglia retreated inside and barricaded himself in the home.
After the tactical team made entry, they found Deborah’s body in the kitchen and her parents’ remains in the lower level of the home. Kevin Castiglia was eventually taken into custody on the second floor after negotiators convinced him to surrender.
He currently faces charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime, and recklessly endangering another person. Police indicated those charges will likely be upgraded once the investigation is complete.
Property records show the Castiglia family had lived in the community since 1970. Neighbors expressed shock at the tragedy, describing the family as quiet and private.
