BARSTOW, CA – A 43-year-old man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly attacking his elderly father with a knife, leaving the 63-year-old victim with wounds to his face and neck, police said.
Jimmy Vincent was arrested shortly after midnight Wednesday when officers responded to a 911 call from his father at a Barstow residence. The victim told dispatchers that his son had suddenly grabbed a knife and was trying to kill him.
According to the Barstow Police Department, the father reported that “Vincent had suddenly armed himself with a knife, threatened to kill him, and began punching and attempting to stab him.”
The victim suffered cuts to his face, neck, and finger during the attack. Medical personnel treated him at the scene, and his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
When officers arrived, they found Vincent still inside the home, armed with the knife. After a tense standoff, he eventually surrendered to police without further incident.
Investigators recovered a bloody kitchen knife at the scene that they believe was used in the attack. Vincent was booked into the High Desert Detention Center on charges of attempted murder and criminal threats.
A judge set his bail at $1 million. Vincent is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Friday.
Police have not disclosed what may have sparked the violent confrontation between father and son. The investigation is ongoing.
