Masked Thieves Steal $200,000 in Chanel and Hermes Bags From Newport Beach Boutique

NEWPORT BEACH, CA – Three masked burglars pulled off a brazen smash-and-grab at a high-end boutique in Newport Beach, making off with more than $200,000 worth of Chanel and Hermes handbags before fleeing in luxury vehicles that had no license plates.

The heist went down just before 4 a.m. on January 18 at The Bella Abby and Ava Boutique. Surveillance footage captured the coordinated attack, showing the trio working with military-like precision to clean out the store’s most valuable merchandise.

Store owner Jennifer Sprenger said the thieves clearly knew exactly what they were doing. They disabled security cameras, knew where the light switches were located, and headed straight for the designer bags without wasting any time.

“They’re not first timers, there is no doubt about it,” Sprenger told investigators. “This was a very well thought-out, planned attack.”

The suspects escaped in a brand-new BMW 4 Series and a Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 Coupe, both of which were missing license plates. The getaway vehicles likely were stolen as well, according to authorities.

The boutique had only been open for about a year before becoming the target of what appears to be a professional burglary crew. Sprenger has now hired a private investigator and is offering a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to arrests.

Luxury retail thefts have been plaguing California in recent years, with organized rings targeting high-end merchandise that can be quickly resold on the black market.

Anyone with information about the burglary is encouraged to contact the Newport Beach Police Department.
