Carjacker’s Wild Corvette Rampage Across California Ends in Deadly Shootout That Wounds Police Sergeant

SAN JOSE, CA – A violent crime spree involving stolen Corvettes, armed carjackings, and robberies across multiple California counties came to a bloody end when the suspect was killed in a shootout that left a veteran San Jose police sergeant critically wounded.

Mohamed Husien, 30, of Davis died in the final confrontation after leading authorities on a multi-day rampage that terrorized communities from Sacramento to San Jose. The sergeant who was shot is expected to survive, with his first words at the hospital being: “Make sure someone takes care of my dogs.”

The chaos began January 17 in Sacramento when Husien allegedly stole a red Corvette. Over the next several days, he committed multiple armed carjackings and robberies in East Palo Alto and San Mateo before the violence escalated Wednesday at a San Jose auto mall, where he allegedly stole a green Corvette at gunpoint.

A San Jose police helicopter tracked Husien as he fled southbound into San Benito County around 2:48 p.m. The slow-speed chase ended near Buena Vista Road when the vehicle became disabled.

But Husien was not ready to surrender. He opened fire on officers and fled on foot before carjacking yet another vehicle. He then fired at California Highway Patrol officers before the final confrontation occurred near Julian and Terraine streets off Highway 87.

Bystanders in the area reported hearing between 20 and 30 gunshots during the deadly exchange.

The wounded sergeant, whose name has not been released, was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in critical but stable condition. Officials from multiple agencies praised the bravery of all the officers involved in ending the dangerous spree.

Highway 87 was shut down for several hours while investigators processed the scene.
