OCONEE COUNTY, SC – Family members grew worried when they couldn’t reach Larry and Sandra Moore for several days. When police finally checked on the couple, they found both dead inside their home from what the coroner called “traumatic injuries.”
Larry Moore was 76. His wife Sandra was 75. They’d been married for decades and were beloved members of their community.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating their deaths as a double homicide, though officials are keeping most details close to the vest.
“Specific details were withheld to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation,” a spokesperson said. The coroner’s office confirmed the manner of death but wouldn’t elaborate on what type of injuries the couple sustained.
The Moores were longtime members of Calvary Church and had run a popular fish camp in the area before retiring back in 2016. Friends described them as kind, generous people who wouldn’t have had any enemies.
Investigators haven’t named any suspects or persons of interest in the case. They’re asking anyone with information to come forward.
“If you have security camera footage or noticed any suspicious activity in the area, please contact us,” authorities said. Tips can be submitted through Crimestoppers at 1-844-71-CRIME, through their website at 71crime.com, or by using the P3 mobile app.
The discovery has rattled the tight-knit community, where violent crime is relatively rare. Neighbors say they’re shocked and scared, wondering who could have done this to such a well-liked couple.
Funeral arrangements for the Moores have not yet been announced.
