Buddhist Monks Walking 2,300 Miles to DC Go Viral With 1 Million Followers

FORT WORTH, TX – A group of Buddhist monks walking more than 2,300 miles from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C., has captured the attention of over one million social media followers, with an unexpected star emerging: a rescue dog named Aloka.

The monks, affiliated with the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center in Texas, began their “Walk for Peace” in late October 2025 and expect to complete the journey sometime this winter.

The group has emphasized that their trek is a spiritual practice rather than a political statement.

“This is not a protest. It is a spiritual practice,” the monks have explained to those they encounter along the way. They describe peace as “not a destination, but a way of living.”

Photos and videos of Aloka, dubbed the “Peace Dog,” walking alongside the monks in their traditional robes have driven significant engagement on social media. The group’s Facebook following has surpassed one million supporters, with followers sharing messages of encouragement and tracking the monks’ progress across the country.

As they pass through cities, towns, and rural communities, the monks distribute blessing strings to people they meet, turning the journey into a moving meditation that touches lives along the route.

The walk represents a unique intersection of ancient Buddhist tradition and modern social media, demonstrating how spiritual practices can resonate with contemporary audiences seeking messages of peace and mindfulness.

Supporters have praised the monks for their dedication and the simplicity of their message during a time of widespread division.

The group continues eastward, sharing updates on their progress and the communities they encounter along the way.

  1. I will be going at least 2 days to watch them as they arrive in Raleigh, NC and again as they leave Raleigh. Ive seen the Dali Lama and Pope John Paul II when he said Mass at Giants Stadium so there is no way I’m going to miss this experience.
