Police Shoot Knife-Wielding Suspect Inside Brooklyn Hospital

BROOKLYN, NY – A man armed with a knife was shot by officers inside a Brooklyn hospital Thursday evening after hospital security called for backup, according to law enforcement sources.

The incident unfolded at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital near 6th Street and 7th Avenue. Details remain scarce, but authorities say security personnel encountered an individual with a knife inside the medical facility and immediately requested police assistance.

When officers arrived and confronted the armed suspect, the situation escalated to the point where they opened fire. The suspect was struck and is reportedly in critical condition, though his identity hasn’t been released.

The NYPD quickly locked down the area surrounding the hospital, warning residents to steer clear of the neighborhood.

“Due to a police investigation, expect delays and heavy traffic in the surrounding area,” the department announced, urging people to find alternate routes.

Hospital officials declined to comment on the incident, directing all questions to the NYPD. The medical center continued operating during and after the shooting, though the specific area where the confrontation occurred was cordoned off for investigators.

It’s still unclear what brought the knife-wielding individual to the hospital in the first place, or what sparked the confrontation with security staff. Investigators are working to piece together the sequence of events that led to officers discharging their weapons inside a place meant for healing.

The shooting remains under active investigation. No officers or hospital staff were reported injured in the incident.
