CHICAGO, IL – A beloved special education teacher has been missing for days after surveillance cameras captured her crossing a pedestrian bridge alone in the middle of the night, and her desperate husband says this is completely out of character.
Linda Brown, who teaches at Robert Healy Elementary School on the city’s South Side, disappeared Saturday, January 3rd. The 5-foot-tall educator with brown hair and brown eyes was supposed to be heading to an acupuncture appointment in the Wicker Park neighborhood that morning. She never showed up.
Security footage tells a troubling story. Cameras show Brown parking her blue Honda Civic in the 4500 block of South Martin Luther King Drive, near her Bronzeville home, and getting out of the vehicle alone. Her car was later found at 35th Street and Lake Park – miles from where she’d left it.
The most haunting piece of evidence came from a surveillance camera that recorded Brown crossing a pedestrian bridge by herself around 3 a.m. on the day she vanished. She hasn’t been seen since.
Her husband, Antwon Brown, woke up at 8:45 that morning to find his wife gone. She’d taken her purse and credit cards with her. He’s been trying to reach her ever since, but every call and text goes unanswered.
“I am terrified,” Antwon told reporters. “I need my wife home.”
He insists Linda has never done anything like this before. While she’s dealt with mental health issues in the past, she’s never left home without returning. The behavior captured on those cameras just doesn’t match the woman he knows.
Chicago police say Brown may need medical attention and are asking anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact Area One SVU detectives at 312-747-8380.
Brown is described as weighing approximately 130 pounds with a fair complexion. Her family and colleagues at the elementary school are praying for her safe return.
