NEW YORK, NY – A 30-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times and killed inside her Bronx apartment building Saturday night, with two suspects including her neighbor now facing charges in the brutal attack.
Shashamanie Thompson was found unresponsive around 10 p.m. on Ogden Avenue with stab wounds covering her body. Officers responding to reports of an assault transported her to Lincoln Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police have arrested Beyonce Johnson, 24, and Saleh Ceesay, 21, in connection with the killing. Johnson faces murder charges while Ceesay has been charged with manslaughter.
What makes the case particularly chilling is the proximity of the alleged killer to her victim. Police records indicate Johnson shared the same address as Thompson, meaning the two women lived in the same building as neighbors before the fatal confrontation.
Investigators have not disclosed what may have sparked the deadly attack or the nature of the relationship between Thompson and her accused killers. The stabbing occurred over the long holiday weekend, when the building would have been relatively quiet.
Thompson suffered multiple stab wounds across her body, according to the criminal complaint. The ferocity of the attack left her with no chance of survival despite emergency responders’ efforts to save her.
Both suspects remain in custody pending arraignment. Johnson faces the more serious murder charge, suggesting investigators believe she was the primary attacker. Ceesay’s manslaughter charge indicates a lesser role in Thompson’s death but still criminal involvement.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to piece together exactly what happened inside the Ogden Avenue building Saturday night.
Neighbors expressed shock at the violence, describing Thompson as someone they would see regularly coming and going from the building. The Bronx location had not been known for violent crime before the stabbing.
