Gunman Killed After Opening Fire at Idaho Sheriff’s Office, Wounding Three

WALLACE, ID – A gunman armed with multiple firearms opened fire at a rural Idaho sheriff’s office headquarters Friday afternoon, wounding three people before being shot and killed by law enforcement in the lobby, authorities said.

The shooting occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office in Wallace, located about 45 miles southeast of Coeur d’Alene near the Idaho-Washington border.

Two women were shot while sitting in a pickup truck outside the building. One victim was struck in the leg in the front seat, while the other was hit in the leg in the back seat. A sheriff’s officer was also wounded, suffering a gunshot to the ear.

All three victims sustained minor injuries and are expected to recover.

Sheriff William Eddy described the chaotic scene that unfolded at the public facility.

“The guy shot through the windshield,” Eddy said. “He just walked in. The lobby is always open so people can walk in and fill out reports.”

The suspect entered the lobby and continued firing before law enforcement responded. Officers shot and killed the gunman in the lobby area at approximately 4:15 p.m.

The suspect’s name has not been released. Sheriff Eddy declined to speculate on a possible motive for the attack. No hostages were taken during the incident.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the FBI and U.S. Marshals Service.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
