KENNER, LA – A man who operated as a local preacher while using a false identity has been arrested on sexual battery charges involving a 10-year-old victim, with federal agencies confirming he is in the country illegally and has previously been deported.
Kenner police arrested the suspect, who had been living in Metairie under the name Caleb Osorio-Cuxum, 42, at his residence on December 18. Federal authorities later identified him as Luis Fernando Gonzalez Fernandez and confirmed his illegal immigration status and prior removal history.
According to investigators, the suspect committed multiple acts of sexual battery against the child victim over an extended period while presenting himself as a religious leader in the community.
The investigation was complicated by the suspect’s use of a false identity, which limited local law enforcement’s initial ability to access federal and immigration databases. Kenner Police partnered with ICE, the HSI Violent Gang Task Force, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office to uncover his true identity.
Police Chief Keith Conley praised the multi-agency cooperation that led to the arrest.
“These collaborations allow us to leverage federal resources that are not available to us at the local level, overcome obstacles such as false identities, and ultimately protect the most vulnerable members of our community,” Conley said.
The suspect faces sexual battery charges under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:43.1. Additional federal charges related to his immigration status may follow.
The case highlights concerns about individuals using false identities to embed themselves in communities and gain access to potential victims through positions of trust like religious leadership.
