Missing Woman Found Dead in Trash Can, Husband Kept Body Hidden for Two Years

SPRINGFIELD, IL – An Illinois man is facing charges after his wife’s decomposing remains were discovered wrapped in plastic inside a garbage bin in their backyard shed, nearly two years after her death.

Nancy Corbin, 65, was identified by the Sangamon County Coroner after family members in Texas requested a welfare check. They hadn’t heard from her in almost two years and suspected her husband, 59-year-old Adam Corbin, might have harmed her.

When police first visited the home, Adam Corbin offered conflicting stories about his wife’s whereabouts. He initially claimed she was visiting Florida, then said she was staying with friends. In a bizarre twist, he even produced a woman who tried to impersonate Nancy during the welfare check.

Officers immediately recognized the impersonation attempt and knew something was seriously wrong. But Adam Corbin managed to evade immediate detection of his wife’s body during that initial visit.

According to a woman who lived with the couple, Adam Corbin told her he found Nancy dead in their bed one morning. Rather than call authorities, he placed her body in a blue trash bin, applied chemicals to it, and left it sitting outside for nearly two years.

Surveillance footage captured Corbin’s suspicious behavior after police left his home following the welfare check. The video showed him quickly moving the trash bin from outside into a shed, apparently trying to prevent its discovery during any follow-up visits.

Investigators also uncovered financial fraud connected to Nancy’s death. Corbin continued receiving state caregiver payments for his wife long after she died, essentially profiting from concealing her death from authorities.

When police finally searched the property, they found Nancy’s remains in the backyard shed, wrapped in plastic inside the garbage bin exactly where the witness said it would be. The discovery ended a nearly two-year cover-up.

Adam Corbin now faces multiple charges including seven counts of unlawful firearm possession as a convicted felon, one count of abuse of a corpse and removal without authorization, and one count of concealment of death. Police seized seven firearms from the home, as Corbin lacked proper identification to legally own guns.

The case highlights the tragic consequences when someone chooses concealment over calling for help. Authorities continue investigating whether additional charges, including homicide, will be filed pending autopsy results and further evidence review.
