Jets Cornerback Kris Boyd Shot in Manhattan, Stable After Surgery

NEW YORK, NY – New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in stable condition after being shot in the chest during an early morning altercation outside a Midtown Manhattan restaurant, police said Sunday.

The shooting occurred around 2 a.m. on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue in Manhattan’s Entertainment District. Boyd, 29, was leaving the Asian fusion restaurant Sei Less with a small group when they encountered another group that had also exited the establishment.

An argument quickly escalated, and someone from the opposing group fired twice, striking Boyd once in the chest. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, initially going in and out of consciousness, but has since stabilized.

Police are searching for a BMW and Mercedes that fled the scene. Investigators are reviewing surveillance videos and collecting evidence but have not yet obtained a description of the shooter. No arrests have been made.

Authorities remain uncertain whether the dispute involved Boyd’s group directly or another party that was present at the scene. The motive for the shooting is still undetermined.

“I am praying for New York Jets player Kris Boyd and his loved ones,” Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement. “Although we’ve gotten shootings to historic lows in our city, we must continue to work to end gun violence.”

The Jets released a brief statement acknowledging the incident: “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”

Boyd signed a one-year contract with the Jets in March. He has been on injured reserve since August due to a shoulder injury. The defensive back previously played for the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings during his NFL career.

The investigation is ongoing.
