Teen Cheerleader Found Dead on Carnival Cruise Ship, FBI Investigates

MIAMI, FL – An 18-year-old Florida cheerleader was found dead aboard a Carnival cruise ship last week, prompting an FBI investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Anna Kepner, a senior at Temple Christian School, was discovered deceased aboard the Carnival Horizon during a western Caribbean voyage that concluded in Miami on November 8. The cause of death has not been released, and an autopsy is pending.

The FBI has joined local authorities in investigating the incident. Carnival Cruise Line issued a statement saying the company is “fully cooperating with the investigation” but declined to provide additional details about the circumstances of Kepner’s death.

Kepner was an accomplished student with diverse interests and skills. She held certifications in both boating and scuba diving, and was active on social media, creating content on TikTok with friends and family. At her high school, she was known for her enthusiasm as a cheerleader for the Lions.

According to family members, Kepner had plans to join the military after graduation and was awaiting results from the ASVAB test to determine her career options within the armed services. She had recently customized her parking spot at school with a design inspired by the film “Clueless.”

The cruise ship’s voyage was part of Carnival’s regular Caribbean itinerary. The ship returned to its Miami port as scheduled despite the tragic incident. Carnival has not disclosed where on the ship Kepner was found or whether any other passengers witnessed anything unusual.

Deaths aboard cruise ships, while relatively rare, typically trigger investigations by both local authorities at the port of call and federal agencies if the ship is under U.S. jurisdiction. The FBI’s involvement suggests authorities are treating the case as potentially suspicious rather than a natural death or accident.

A Celebration of Life service for Kepner has been scheduled for November 20. Her death has shocked the Temple Christian School community, where she was remembered as a bright student with a promising future.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out any potential causes of death pending the completion of the autopsy and toxicology reports.
