Montana Mother Charged in Death of Disabled Toddler Found Decomposing

LIMA, MT – A Montana woman faces deliberate homicide charges after authorities discovered her 2-year-old disabled son’s decomposing body covered by a sweatshirt in an upstairs bedroom filled with trash and animal feces.

Nichole Lynn Boyer, 28, called 911 on October 16 to report that her son had died. When investigators arrived at the Lima residence, they found the child’s remains on a pile of laundry and trash, with a strong odor of decomposition filling the home.

The toddler, identified in court documents as S.B., had severe disabilities and was unable to walk. According to the criminal complaint, Boyer admitted to investigators that she stopped providing care for her son in September.

“I believe I should have done more,” Boyer told investigators. “My lack of not paying attention and prioritizing other things over him led to him dying.”

Court documents reveal Boyer kept the disabled child in a padded bedroom area, leaving food on the floor for him to crawl toward. She never sought medical care for his illnesses, believing she could manage his care independently.

By September, Boyer said she became overwhelmed and ceased providing food and water to the boy. She claimed to have known he was dead for weeks before contacting authorities.

Investigators described the home as being in poor condition with piles of trash, rotted food and animal feces throughout. The discovery shocked the small mountain community of Lima in southwestern Montana.

Boyer is being held on $500,000 bond with strict conditions including GPS monitoring, no contact with children, and a requirement to remain in Montana. Her next court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday.

If convicted of deliberate homicide, Boyer faces a maximum sentence of life in prison under Montana law. Prosecutors have not disclosed whether additional charges may be filed in connection with the child’s prolonged neglect and death.
