CHESTER COUNTY, PA – A 25-year-old man was killed and six others injured when gunfire erupted during a homecoming celebration at Lincoln University Saturday night, prompting authorities to cancel Monday classes as the campus community grapples with the tragedy.
Jujuan Jeffers of Wilmington, Delaware, died in the shooting that occurred just before 9:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the International Cultural Center building, where students and alumni had gathered for a post-football game tailgate and Yardfest event.
The six injured victims, ranging in age from 20 to 25, are all expected to survive, according to authorities. Among those wounded were one current student and one graduate, while the remaining victims had no direct university affiliation.
Chester County detectives, with assistance from the FBI, are conducting grid searches and reviewing video evidence to identify the shooter or shooters responsible for the attack. Investigators have not yet determined how many gunmen were involved.
Authorities arrested Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson of Wilmington, Delaware, on charges of carrying a concealed firearm without a license. Morgan-Thompson is being held on $25,000 cash bail. However, investigators have not confirmed whether the detained suspect’s weapon was used in the shooting, and they believe multiple shooters may have been involved.
University President Brenda A. Allen announced the cancellation of Monday classes, designating the day for “healing and reflection” while keeping the campus open to provide support services for students. Counseling services will be available throughout the week for those affected by the violence.
The historically black university, located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, was celebrating its annual homecoming when the shooting occurred, transforming what should have been a joyous reunion into a scene of chaos and tragedy.
Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324).
The investigation remains active as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the deadly outbreak of violence during one of the university’s most anticipated annual celebrations.
