LONG BEACH, CA – A man was fatally shot early Saturday morning following an altercation at a local bar, authorities said.
Long Beach police responded around 1:39 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of La Verne Avenue, according to a news release from the Long Beach Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Long Beach Fire Department personnel provided medical aid at the scene, but the victim was pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives determined the shooting stemmed from a confrontation that began inside a nearby bar. The victim and a group of people became involved in an altercation, which escalated after the parties left the establishment.
The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
Investigators have not released information about a suspect or suspects in the shooting. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and interviewing witnesses who were present during the altercation.
