Ventura County Man Killed in Sherman Oaks Hit-and-Run

SHERMAN OAKS, CA – A 62-year-old man from Ventura County was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Sherman Oaks early Sunday morning, prompting an investigation by Los Angeles police and a substantial reward for information.

The fatal collision occurred around 12:05 a.m. on Van Nuys Boulevard, just south of Huston Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Investigators determined that a black Tesla Model Y was traveling southbound on Van Nuys Boulevard when it struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway. The driver failed to stop at the scene, did not identify themselves and did not render aid as required by California law.

Witnesses reported seeing the Tesla continue southbound on Van Nuys Boulevard after the collision. Police are working to identify and locate the driver.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene but pronounced the victim dead upon arrival. The man has been described only as a 62-year-old white male from Ventura County. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Valley Traffic Division detectives have taken over the investigation and are actively seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the driver responsible for the fatal crash.

City officials are reminding drivers that California law requires anyone involved in a traffic collision to pull over safely, call emergency services and remain at the scene until authorities arrive.

The city of Los Angeles is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the suspect through the Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund.
