JAMAICA, NY – A 21-year-old man was fatally stabbed inside a popular Queens nightclub early Sunday morning, marking the latest violent incident at a New York City entertainment venue, police said.
Officers with the New York Police Department responded to the nightclub Sweets of NY at 94-02 Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica just before 2 a.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing inside the establishment.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the victim suffering from a stab wound to his midsection. Emergency medical personnel immediately transported him to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
Despite efforts by medical staff to save his life, the man was pronounced dead a short time later, according to NYPD officials. His identity has not been released pending notification of family members.
The nightclub was hosting patrons at the time of the incident. Investigators have not disclosed what led to the stabbing or whether the victim and suspect knew each other prior to the attack.
No arrests have been made in connection with the fatal stabbing. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from inside and outside the venue and interviewing witnesses who were present during the incident.
The NYPD is asking anyone with information about the stabbing to come forward. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
Sweets of NY is a known nightlife destination in the Jamaica neighborhood. Club management has not issued a public statement regarding the incident.
