NEW YORK, NY – A 23-year-old Bronx man faces attempted murder charges after allegedly attacking three women in a violent six-hour spree Wednesday morning, including a 15-year-old girl who remains hospitalized and unable to speak.
Jeremiah White was arrested and arraigned Thursday, held on $600,000 bond for the series of brutal assaults that terrorized women in the Bronx. Prosecutors revealed White had attacked two other women in September and was released despite being on supervised release.
The first attack occurred at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when Virginia Alvarez, a 46-year-old nurse’s aide, was walking to work on University Avenue. White allegedly struck her with his fists and a metal pole while shouting, “You killed my mother,” before pushing and punching her repeatedly.
“He said, ‘You killed my mother,’ and pushed me and punched me,” Alvarez recalled. A passing civilian intervened during the assault, potentially saving her life.
Two hours after the first attack, White allegedly assaulted a 15-year-old girl on her way to school on Louis Nine Boulevard. The teenager remains hospitalized and has been unable to speak since the attack, indicating the severity of her injuries.
Two hours later, White allegedly attacked a third victim, a 54-year-old woman on Franklin Avenue. Authorities have not released details about her condition.
The attacks raised serious questions about the criminal justice system after prosecutors revealed White should not have been on the streets. He had attacked two women in September but was released despite being on supervised release at the time. Prosecutors stated he was not eligible for bail on his previous cases.
White now faces multiple counts of attempted murder along with assault charges. The case has sparked outrage in the community about repeat offenders being released before trial.
All three women attacked on Wednesday are expected to survive, though the 15-year-old girl’s recovery remains uncertain. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
