TEXAS – A 27-year-old Texas father is facing capital murder charges after his 2-month-old son died from severe head injuries consistent with physical abuse.
Demari Ossain Alston was arrested following the death of his infant son, who suffered a fatal brain bleed and skull fracture. The baby’s injuries indicated he had been the victim of violent physical abuse.
Alston’s girlfriend, Trinity Nyomi, 22, is also facing charges in connection with the infant’s death. Prosecutors allege both parents failed to protect the child and may have been complicit in the abuse that led to his death.
The 2-month-old baby was rushed to a hospital with catastrophic injuries but could not be saved. Medical examiners determined the skull fracture and brain hemorrhage were consistent with non-accidental trauma.
Investigators believe the injuries were inflicted shortly before the infant became unresponsive. The case has been classified as capital murder due to the victim’s age and the nature of the injuries sustained.
Both parents remain in custody as the investigation continues. Prosecutors are working to piece together the timeline of events that led to the infant’s death and determine the exact circumstances of the fatal injuries.
