FALL RIVER, MA – A Fall River man has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing his former cellmate to death and then calling 911 to report the crime.
Robert Hodgson was arrested after authorities responded to his emergency call reporting the stabbing. Police say Hodgson told investigators he stabbed his former cellmate, though the victim’s identity has not been released.
The circumstances leading up to the fatal stabbing remain under investigation. Authorities have not disclosed when or where the two men had previously been cellmates, or what may have motivated the attack.
Hodgson’s competency to stand trial is scheduled to be evaluated Tuesday. The evaluation will determine whether he is mentally fit to face murder charges in court.
Law enforcement officials are continuing to gather evidence in the case as the investigation proceeds. Additional charges may be filed pending the outcome of the ongoing inquiry.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.
