LONG BEACH, CA – A 34-year-old Long Beach man is facing murder and attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing two of his roommates Saturday morning, killing one and seriously injuring the other.
Officers with the Long Beach Police Department responded around 10:38 a.m. to the 1300 block of Temple Avenue for an “assist fire” call, officials said in a news release.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found two men suffering from stab wounds to the upper body. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
The suspect, identified as Alejandro Iniestra, 34, of Long Beach, remained at the scene and was safely taken into custody without further incident, investigators said.
According to homicide detectives, Iniestra and both victims were roommates living at the residence. Detectives believe Iniestra attacked one of the men before turning on the other, though the motive behind the stabbings remains under investigation.
Iniestra was booked on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. His bail was set at $2 million.
The name of the man who was killed is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. The condition and identity of the surviving victim were not immediately released.
Detectives plan to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration in the coming days.
