INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez was stabbed during an early morning altercation in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday and subsequently arrested at the hospital where he was treated.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when Indianapolis Metropolitan Police responded to reports of a physical disturbance between two men. Sanchez, 38, sustained stab wounds during the confrontation and was transported to a local hospital, where he remained in stable condition.
While receiving medical treatment, Sanchez was arrested on three misdemeanor charges: battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. Police officials indicated that both men involved in the altercation were not local residents.
Authorities have characterized the incident as isolated and not a random act of violence. Investigators reviewed video footage of the confrontation as part of their ongoing investigation.
Fox Sports confirmed the incident in a statement Saturday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy,” the network said.
Sanchez spent the majority of his NFL career with the New York Jets after being selected fifth overall in the 2009 NFL Draft. He retired from professional football in 2019 and joined Fox Sports as an analyst in 2021, where he has provided commentary on NFL games.
The former University of Southern California star led the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances during his first two seasons in the league. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington during his 10-year NFL career.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the altercation. No additional details about the nature of the dispute or the identity of the other individual involved have been released.
