LAS VEGAS, NV – Country music icon Dolly Parton has postponed her December Las Vegas residency shows, citing health issues that require medical attention and recovery time.
The 79-year-old singer was scheduled to perform six shows at the Dolby Live theater at Park MGM from Dec. 15-28 as part of her “Pure & Simple” residency that began earlier this year.
“I am heartbroken to have to postpone my December shows in Las Vegas,” Parton said in a statement released Sunday. “My doctors have advised me to take some time to rest and recover, and I always listen to what my body is telling me.”
Parton did not specify the nature of her health issues but said she expects to return to performing in early 2026. Her representatives declined to provide additional details about her condition.
“Dolly’s health and well-being are our top priority,” said Danny Nozell, Parton’s longtime manager. “She is receiving excellent medical care and is optimistic about her recovery.”
MGM Resorts said ticket holders for the postponed shows would receive full refunds automatically. The company added that Parton’s remaining 2025 performances, scheduled for October and November, remain on track to proceed as planned.
“We support Dolly completely in prioritizing her health,” said Sean McBurney, president of MGM Resorts entertainment. “We look forward to welcoming her back to our stage when she’s ready.”
Parton launched her Vegas residency in July to sold-out crowds and critical acclaim. The intimate shows feature stripped-down versions of her biggest hits along with stories from her legendary career spanning more than five decades.
The Tennessee-born superstar has been remarkably active in recent years despite her age, touring extensively and releasing new music. Her 2023 album “Rockstar” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Known for her tireless work ethic and rarely canceling performances, Parton’s decision to postpone shows has prompted concern among fans worldwide. The singer has more than 100 million records sold and is considered one of country music’s most beloved figures.
Parton’s health announcement comes as she prepares for a busy 2026 that includes a planned world tour and the release of a new biographical film about her life.
“I hate disappointing my fans, but I know they want me healthy and strong,” Parton said. “I’ll be back soon, ready to give you the show you deserve.”
This marks the first time Parton has postponed performances due to health reasons in more than a decade. Her last major health scare was in 2013 when she was hospitalized for kidney stones.
Fans and fellow musicians took to social media Sunday to express support and well-wishes for Parton’s recovery.
The entertainer is expected to resume her Vegas residency schedule in February 2026, with new show dates to be announced pending her recovery progress.
