HOLLYWOOD, CA – The White Wolf is getting a new face as Netflix’s fantasy epic prepares for its highly anticipated fourth season debut this October.
Liam Hemsworth officially steps into the boots of Geralt of Rivia when The Witcher Season 4 premieres on October 30, 2025. The Australian actor takes over the monster-hunting role from Henry Cavill, who portrayed the silver-haired witcher through the show’s first three seasons before departing to pursue other projects.
Netflix released an exclusive first clip of Hemsworth in character this week, giving fans their first proper look at the new Geralt. The transition represents one of television’s most significant recasting decisions in recent years, given Cavill’s popularity in the role and his well-documented passion for the source material.
“As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” Hemsworth said in a statement. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored to take up the mantle as we dive into Geralt’s fantastic world for the adventure ahead.”
The upcoming season won’t just feature a new leading man. Peter Mullan joins the cast as Vesemir, replacing Kim Bodnia who departed due to scheduling conflicts. The veteran Scottish actor brings decades of experience to the role of Geralt’s mentor and father figure.
Perhaps the most exciting addition is Laurence Fishburne as Regis, a mysterious barber-surgeon who becomes a key ally in the books. Fans of the video games and novels have long awaited this character’s introduction to the Netflix adaptation. The cast also welcomes Sharlto Copley as the ruthless bounty hunter Leo Bonhart and James Purefoy as the calculating Skellen.
Season 4’s story picks up with the main characters scattered across a war-torn continent. Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri must navigate their separate journeys while leading groups of unlikely allies in hopes of reuniting once more. The season will adapt material from Andrzej Sapkowski’s later novels, moving deeper into the saga’s more complex political and magical elements.
Creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has confirmed that the show will conclude with Season 5, allowing the creative team to bring Sapkowski’s epic to what she calls “an epic and satisfying conclusion.” The decision to end the series gives the writers a clear endpoint to work toward, something that should benefit the storytelling as major plot threads reach their resolution.
The timing couldn’t be better for Witcher fans, as Sapkowski’s new novel “Crossroads of Ravens” arrives internationally this September, providing fresh material for those eager to explore more of the world before the TV adaptation concludes.
With filming complete and post-production underway, The Witcher Season 4 represents a bold new chapter for Netflix’s fantasy flagship. Whether Hemsworth can fill Cavill’s formidable boots remains to be seen, but the expanded cast and deeper source material suggest the show isn’t slowing down as it heads toward its finale.
