SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Food and Drug Administration has elevated its recall of several Cal Yee Farms chocolate products to the most serious risk category—Class 1—due to undeclared milk. This urgent notice affects the dark chocolate almonds, dark chocolate apricots, and dark chocolate walnuts from the farm, posing a significant threat to those with milk allergies.
When announced earlier, the recall included various Cal Yee Farms products potentially containing undisclosed allergens such as soy, wheat, sesame, FD&C #6, and almonds. However, the latest update focuses specifically on the risk of undeclared milk, which has prompted the FDA to shift these select items to a Class 1 recall status. According to the FDA, a Class 1 recall indicates a plausible scenario where product usage could lead to severe health risks or even death.
The initial alert in December 2024 targeted consumers in nine states: Arizona, California, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Nonetheless, because these products are also available online, the FDA advises that consumers everywhere review their recent purchases.
The recalled items are easily identifiable. They are sold in clear plastic zippered pouches—available in 8 oz, 1 lb, 2 lb, and 5 lb packages—with a conspicuous yellow label showing the product name on the front and a small white UPC code label on the back. This distinct packaging should assist consumers in identifying if they have purchased the affected products.
Cal Yee Farms has expressed cooperation with the FDA’s directives, prioritizing customer safety and awareness. Consumers in possession of these products are advised to return them to the place of purchase and seek a refund.
