Janelle Brown hires lawyer in property dispute with ex Kody Brown

FLAGSTAFF, AZ – Janelle Brown has taken decisive steps to safeguard her interest in a shared property with ex-husband Kody Brown, as tensions simmer over Coyote Pass, a piece of land they co-own in Arizona.

In a recent episode of the reality show “Sister Wives”, which aired on January 19, Janelle discussed hiring a lawyer to assist in separating assets from her ex-husband. The conversation unfolded during a video call with her former sister wife Christine Brown, along with Christine’s husband David Woolley and Janelle’s daughter, Madison.

Addressing Christine’s inquiry about the property, Janelle explained, “I’ve secured legal representation and paid a retainer. The goal is to separate our assets.” Janelle expressed frustration over Kody’s indecision about selling Coyote Pass, saying he often defers the matter to Meri, yet another of his former wives.

The property, consisting of approximately 14 acres, has posed a challenge for the former spouses. Janelle revealed that the land is finally paid off, something that was a pressing concern due to Kody’s perceived lack of urgency about selling it, as mentioned in an earlier 2024 episode.

Janelle shared her dilemma during a confessional, expressing her desire to resolve the situation. “I want us to sell it, divide it, or whatever it takes. But it’s always silence from Kody,” she lamented, noting his reluctance to make a decision.

The former sister wives’ discussion highlighted the complexities of dividing the property. Janelle pointed out that, based on current title arrangements, Meri would receive compensation for only 1.5 acres out of the total 14, should they proceed with a sale immediately.

Meri has previously recounted to friends how Kody informed her that she is not “entitled” to an equal share of Coyote Pass, allegedly because she shares only one child with him.

Janelle stressed that Kody’s involvement is crucial since ownership transfers require his consent. “The whole process depends on Kody. He controls all titles. The question remains: will he divide the property fairly?”

In a later segment, Kody informed a realtor of his intention to split the proceeds from any future sale equally among his current wife, himself, and two of his ex-wives, insisting, “When we sell, I’m dividing the money four ways. Trust has dissolved with divorce, but I intend to be fair.”

As Janelle, Christine, and Meri have all exited their polygamous marriage with Kody, Robyn Brown remains the only wife still legally married to him. In December 2023, she voiced feelings of abandonment by her former sister wives.

The relationship between Janelle and Kody has been strained since their split in December 2022. As they navigate this complex property issue, the broader implications for the family and their shared assets remain to be seen.
